Can we become a host family?

Will our host child attend school?

Who are the young people we can welcome?

They are between 15 and 18 years old, girls or boys, they come from Germany, Latin America, Africa, the United States, New Zealand, Australia, the Netherlands, Europe. 'East, from Scandinavia, etc.

They were selected by the YFU association of their country of origin based on their motivation, their academic level and their ability to adapt. They also benefited from preparation before their departure. Thanks to its cultural influence, France attracts a large number of participants. Young people are interested in learning the language, but also in our culture and our way of life.

When will our host child arrive?

Will we get paid for welcoming a young person?

What is expected from a host family?

The host family covers accommodation and food as well as expenses related to daily life (laundry, etc.). The young person must cover his own personal expenses with his pocket money, in particular for everything relating to school transport, outings, extra-curricular activities, the purchase of clothes, hairdresser, etc.

The host family undertakes to follow the young person during their schooling and ensures their attendance. Young people are sometimes surprised by the pace of French schooling; their family will help them overcome these difficulties.

The family implements all necessary means to perfectly integrate the young person into their daily life, without changing their habits.

The objective of the long stay with the family is to encourage the young person to associate and adapt to another culture. By attending high school, the student will quickly become independent.

The continued presence of a family member is therefore not necessary. The quality of shared time is much more important than the quantity!

What YFU activities will take place during our hosting experience?

A first regional meeting takes place a few weeks after their arrival in France. It is compulsory and allows young people to share their first impressions and benefit from the advice of local volunteers. It is also for families who wish it, the opportunity to meet other parents who welcome and the volunteers of the association.

A mid-stay meeting is organized in the region at the start of the second semester (January-February). Students, families and volunteers come together to take stock of the first months spent together and to share a friendly moment.

An end-of-stay meeting takes place in the region, one month before the young people return. It allows young people and families to take stock of the experience, prepare to say goodbye and consider what comes next!

Activities, informal meetings, vacation trips can also be organized locally by the YFU correspondent. These outings are optional and are the responsibility of the participants.
